2007 Marks Three Significant Milestones for Bishop McKinney.

• 45 years as the founding pastor of St. Stephen’s Cathedral COGIC
• 60 years of ministry
• 75 years of age

“We've Come This Far By Faith” has been Bishop McKinney's mantra throughout his ministry.

George Dallas McKinney preached his first message in 1947, founded St. Stephen’s Church of God in Christ in September, 1962, and by God’s grace will celebrate his youthful 75th birthday in August, 2007. To commemorate these milestones in Bishop McKinney’s life there is a “Year-Long Celebration” planned for 2007. December 31, 2006, New Year’s Eve Watch Night Service, will be the grand kick-off - with many planned events continuing through New Year’s Eve Watch Meeting Service, December 31, 2007.

This Year-Long Celebration (YLC) will bring together present and former members of St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church of God in Christ through the many exciting celebratory events planned. There is a great focus on spiritual rededication as well as congregation, family and friends reuniting. Through the years, Bishop McKinney’s emphasis has been a ministry of forgiveness, reconciliation and compassion. Together with his wife, the late Dr. Jean C. McKinney, this goal was accomplished.

Special commemorative monthly events have been scheduled to highlight these significant milestones in Bishop McKinney’s many years of ministry, i.e., dynamic and anointed spiritual guest speakers and one Sunday night of each month the Birth Month Captains, and their teams, will coordinate a YLC special service honoring our Pastor. All other auxiliary activities and regular services will, of course, incorporate the YLC theme.

One of the great highlights will be a special time of renewing, reminiscing and joyfulness as former St. Stephen’s members, pastors and other ministry leaders, who studied under Bishop McKinney’s leadership, will be reunited for a time of encouragement, inspiration, fellowship and camaraderie.

Other YLC events will include the docu-drama, “Our Living Heritage” Black History Presentation, a magnificent celebratory banquet and a festive birthday cruise. There will be a souvenir book, calendars, bookmarkers and other items available as mementoes commemorating the Journey of Faith Year-Long Celebration.

We are looking to have an awe-inspiring and wonderful "moment in time" all year.
